Chairman Nadler Statement on SCOTUS Oral Arguments on DACA

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the Trump Administration’s attempt to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative. In response, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement:

“Two years ago, the Trump Administration decided to end DACA, threatening to upend the lives of 800,000 Dreamers who are working lawfully, attending school, and planning their lives without the constant threat of deportation. Thankfully, multiple federal courts recognized the lawlessness of this decision, and DACA recipients have been allowed to continue to submit renewal applications pending final resolution by the Supreme Court.Regardless of how the Supreme Court rules, Dreamers need and deserve permanent protection. They are American in every way except a piece of paper, which is why I strongly urge the Senate to take upthe American Dream and Promise Act, which the House Judiciary Committee passed earlier this year.”
