There should be zero tolerance for anyone working anywhere in the Administration who shares the offensive views propagated by the organizations to which Mr. Gorka has been associated.
Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), senior Member of the House Judiciary Committee, called reports that Sebastian Gorka—a top national security advisor to President Trump—will be removed from his role at the White House “the correction response,” though not nearly enough. In a statement, Rep. Nadler demanded a response from the Administration to his March 16, 2017 letter requesting clarification concerning Mr. Gorka’s ties to far-right, racist and anti-Semitic groups in Hungary, and insisted that the Administration show “zero tolerance” for anyone associated with organizations sharing such views.
Below is a statement from Congressman Nadler:
“The revelations of Sebastian Gorka’s associations with, and alleged membership in, groups holding far-right, racist and anti-Semitic allegiances are inexcusable, and his dismissal is long overdue. His removal from the White House is the correct response, but it is not nearly enough. There should be zero tolerance for anyone working anywhere in the Administration who shares the offensive views propagated by the organizations to which Mr. Gorka has been associated. This includes the Vitézi Rend, which the U.S. State Department has included in the Foreign Affairs Manual within “Organizations Under the Direction of the Nazi Government of Germany,” and ineligible under the Immigration and Nationality Act .
“In March, I wrote to the White House expressing deep concerns over reports in the Forward that tied Mr. Gorka to the Historical Vitézi Rend, a reconstruction of the original group, and asked that his alleged associations be clarified immediately. Included in my letter was a request for the White House to, “provide the House Committee on the Judiciary with Sebastian Gorka’s immigration application and his application to be a U.S. citizen, so that the Committee can be assured that he did not enter this country under false pretenses.” I have yet to receive a reply as is appropriate to a formal congressional request of this nature.”
“Regardless of Mr. Gorka’s citizenship application status or his relationship with the Vitézi Rend, his documented ties to far-right political and paramilitary groups in Hungary warrant his immediate dismissal. Employing Mr. Gorka in any role—much less one with national security responsibilities—raises serious questions as to the judgement of President Trump and his Administration.”
