Congressman Nadler Statement on House Passage of the Foreign Security and Humanitarian Aid Funding Package

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following statement after House passage of the foreign security and humanitarian aid funding package:

"I proudly voted in favor of crucial assistance for our democratic allies—Israel, Ukraine, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, as well as vital humanitarian assistance for Gaza and other vulnerable populations.

The United States' support for the security of the Israeli people is ironclad and unwavering. The horrific October 7th terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel underscores the necessity of defeating Hamas and holding Iran accountable to secure peace in the Middle East and uphold global stability. We must do everything we can to ensure the safe return of hostages. In addition, we must ensure essential supplies are reaching Palestinians caught in the conflict. I'm proud that the legislative package the House passed today provides $13 billion to aid in the defense of Israel, including billions for the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Iron Beam defense systems. It also includes over $9 billion to address the dire need for humanitarian assistance for Gaza and other vulnerable populations worldwide.

I'm also proud that this package includes a record $400 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to support nonprofit organizations, including houses of worship, that urgently need to bolster their security in the face of rising antisemitism and islamophobia.

Over two years after Putin's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the courage and determination of the Ukrainian people continue to inspire our nation. After months of delays from House Republicans, which risked the gains made by Ukraine in the face of Putin's onslaught, this package finally provides nearly $14 billion in military training, equipment, and weapons to support our ally Ukraine, strengthen the security of our allies in Europe, strengthen our own national security, and stand up to Putin.

This package shows the world that the United States stands strong with its allies in Israel, Ukraine, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan against the aggression of Iran, Russia, the People's Republic of China, and North Korea. I am proud that President Biden and House Democrats rose to the occasion to bypass House Republican obstruction in order to support our allies and for urgently needed humanitarian assistance for Gaza."
