Reps. Maloney, Nadler and King Disappointed in VCF Report

Today, New York Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D), Jerrold Nadler (D) and Peter King (R) released the following statement in response to the newly released Second Annual Status Report of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund:   The fact that there have only been 112 compensation decisions issued by the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) is deeply disappointing. While we are encouraged to see that the VCF was able to register significant numbers of claimants by the October 3rd deadline, we believe that the program can and must do more to deliver on its promise to provide compensation to the thousands of eligible responders and survivors.    The victims of the horrific attacks of September 11th, 2001, have already waited for far too long – first for reopening the VCF and now for the fund to effectively do its job. The lack of progress shown by today’s report is troubling and the VCF must work with the lawyers who represent the victims to greatly expedite this process. Many of these claimants literally do not have time to waste.
