Today, the House Natural Resources Committee passed the 9/11 Memorial Act (H.R. 3036). The bill, cosponsored by Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) who represents the district where the World Trade Center Towers once stood, will bring needed federal funding to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.
Congressman Nadler released the following statement:
“I have long believed that the federal government should play a role in memorializing the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a day which New York City and the entire country will never forget. We owe nothing less to those who lost their lives on that fateful day, those who bravely came to the rescue, and those who worked in the months and years that followed to clear and rebuild the site. This federal funding will ensure that the World Trade Center memorial site is properly maintained, and it is my hope that this will help make the memorial even more accessible to the millions of visitors who come each year to visit and to pay their respects. September 11th forever changed our City, and it is the responsibility of the 9/11 Museum and Memorial to tell that story on behalf of and in partnership with the community, the families, the survivors, and every American who shared in the pain and loss of those attacks.”
