Nadler Statement on President Trump’s "Election Integrity Commission" Farce Meant to Facilitate Voter Suppression

Jan 4, 2018 Issues: Voting Rights, Civil Rights

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) today released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s decision to dissolve the Presidential Commission on Election Integrity:

“From its inception, the so-called “Election Integrity Commission” was a farce created to justify President Trump’s ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims that he lost the popular vote in the presidential election due to voter fraud.  By all intents, it appears the Commission’s true purpose was to facilitate voter suppression.  In scrapping the Commission, the Administration essentially acknowledges its mistake and seeks to avoid litigation around their voter suppression efforts.  It is imperative that we address the very real issue of voter suppression and continue to work to protect voting rights throughout our country.”
