Congressman Nadler to Gain Increased Clout in New Congress

In the 108th Congress, US Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) will rise in the ranks of the Democratic Leadership to the role of Assistant Whip in the organization of the House Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).  In the last Congress, Rep. Nadler was a Regional Whip.

“I am honored that the Democratic Whip has asked me to be one of his top assistants,” said Rep. Nadler.  “I believe the new Democratic Leadership will be a vigorous one, dedicated to promoting our core values as a party.  I look forward to doing all I can to further the cause and look forward to a close working relationship with our party’s leadership team.”

Said Rep. Hoyer, "I am pleased that Congressman Nadler has accepted my offer to him to become an assistant whip.  He has always been one of the brightest and most vocal Members in our caucus, with a real dedication to those ideals we hold the closest. I am sure he will be of great benefit to our whip team in his increased role."

In his new capacity as an Assistant Whip, Rep. Nadler will be responsible for frequent outreach to a large number of Democratic Members, to gauge where they stand on a host of issues, and report  back to the Democratic Whip.  In addition, Rep. Nadler will represent the Democratic Leadership when reaching out to those Members about specific votes.

Rep. Nadler has served in Congress since 1992.  He represents the 8th Congressional District of New York, which includes parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
