Nadler & Lofgren Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Protecting DACA
Washington,
June 18, 2020
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Immigration and Citizenship Chair Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) released the following statement hailing the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Trump Administration’s attempt to end DACA was unlawful: “This is a wonderful day for young Americans across this country. Today’s Supreme Court decision on DACA is not only a win for hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients, it is a win for the rule of law. “The President’s attempt to terminate DACA threw the lives of hundreds of thousands into limbo. As the Court recognized, the Administration offered weak, pretextual reasons for doing so and failed to adhere to the careful procedures required by law. In short, this was a crisis of the Trump Administration’s own making. “These individuals, who are American in every way except on paper, are still in need of a permanent solution. We call upon the Senate and Majority Leader McConnell to immediately take up and pass H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, which puts Dreamers and long-term beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) on a pathway to citizenship. The time to act is now.” |
