Rep. Nadler Statement on Becoming Ranking Member of House Judiciary Committee

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

“This is a critical time in our nation’s history, and the work of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee is more important than ever.  Our efforts—against the GOP Majority, the Trump Administration, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and all those who wish to turn back the long arc of history towards justice—is at times all that stands in defense of progress.  We must fight to protect the rule of law, strengthen our safety and security from enemies foreign and domestic, shield Americans’ civil rights from encroachment, and guarantee that all people are treated fairly and equally no matter their age, race, gender, religion, disability, nationality, or sexual orientation.

“As Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, I will do everything in my power to pursue these important issues and continue the march towards justice.  It is our moral obligation to be steadfast in working for criminal justice reform, to be vigilant in protecting women’s rights – including the right to an abortion – to promote greater equality for members of the LGBTQ community, to demand action on common sense gun laws, to support consumers and oversee antitrust concerns, to defend the civil rights and liberties of all Americans, and to hold the Trump Administration accountable for its destructive policies and unprecedented misconduct.  This Committee is responsible for advancing the cause of justice for all, and my job moving forward is to continue that critical work.  I look forward to working together with my colleagues on the Committee, and in the House of Representatives, as we take on these challenges together.”
