NEW YORK,
NY – Congressman Jerrold Nadler
(NY-08), Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights
and Civil Liberties, applauded today’s decision by the Supreme Court of
Connecticut to overturn the State’s ban on same-sex marriage.
“Today’s court decision in Connecticut
now places that state in the noble company of Massachusetts
and California,
states which allow same-sex marriage and, thereby, uphold the civil rights of
their gay citizens,” said Rep. Nadler. “I commend the Connecticut Supreme Court for its intelligent and fair
judgment and congratulate the state’s gay community for this critical step
toward achieving equal civil rights for all. I am proud that our nation, as a whole, is gradually chipping away at
legalized discrimination against the LGBT community, and I hope that New York
State will sooner-than-later join this exclusive but slowly growing club.”
