Nadler Lauds New Hampshire’s Legalization of Gay Marriage
Washington, DC,
June 4, 2009
Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, praised the New Hampshire State Legislature and Governor John Lynch for their fair-minded decision to legalize same-sex marriage. In doing so, New Hampshire became the sixth state – along with Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and Maine – to affirm the constitutionally given right of all of its citizens, gay or straight, to marry whom they please.
“Yesterday, New Hampshire registered a powerful victory for the civil rights of its citizens,” Rep. Nadler said. “I applaud New Hampshire for protecting the rights of ALL of its citizens, and for making sure to be on the right side of history. The trend towards marriage equality is gaining great momentum, and I look forward to the rest of the country following New Hampshire’s example.” |
