Nadler Heralds $91 Million in Stimulus Funds for Federal Buildings in New York’s 8th District

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) announced $91 million in federal stimulus funding for four federal buildings in his district in New York City. These dollars, secured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be immediately used to upgrade these key pieces of federal infrastructure into greener, more energy efficient and modern buildings. Rep. Nadler has long-supported funding for these projects, and particularly advocated for the overhaul of the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse.

“I am very pleased to have helped obtain this funding for these important pieces of New York federal infrastructure,” said Rep. Nadler. “These four projects represent major local federal building improvements which will simultaneously meet the economic recovery needs of creating jobs, increasing energy efficiency, making our infrastructure more sustainable, and pumping money directly into the economy.”

Because of the importance and immediacy of the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse project, Rep. Nadler has worked closely with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and GSA to ensure that this project was prioritized. The $64 million will quickly provide the funding needed to entirely overhaul this major federal courthouse and transform it into a more productive and sustainable building. This is by all means a shovel-ready project which embodies the many goals of the federal stimulus legislation.

“The funding for the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse will restart the stalled renovation and put people back to work immediately,” said Chief Judge Dennis Jacobs of the 2nd Circuit Federal Court. “This is good news for the courts and the community as a whole. I am grateful for the support of the New York congressional delegation and to Congressman Nadler, in whose district the courthouse is located.”

The four New York City projects, administered by the federal government’s General Services Administration (GSA), are:

· $64,000,000 for complete overhaul, renovation and greening of the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse

· $16,246,000 for green modernizations to 26 Federal Plaza

· $9,827,000 for green improvements to the 201 Varick Street Federal Building (where Rep. Nadler’s Manhattan office is housed)

· $1,209,000 for green improvements to the Moynihan Courthouse
