Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following statement: “The utter devastation of the earthquake in Haiti has shocked and saddened us all, and, very appropriately, it has driven Americans and others around the world into action to help the Haitian recovery. For New York, which is the proud home to the largest community of Haitian expatriates in the world, the impact is particularly profound. In the spirit of compassion and solidarity with the Haitian people, I am committed to doing everything in my power as an elected official to help our federal response to this terrible crisis. Let us all now work together to bring relief to those who are suffering. My heart goes out to the thousands who have lost loved ones.” The following resources are available for those seeking information on Haiti, or for those wanting to help the relief efforts: White House Information on Donating and Volunteering: https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/01/14/president-haiti-first-waves-our-rescue-and-relief-workers-are-ground-and-work U.S. Federal Response from USAID: https://www.usaid.gov/locations/latin_america_caribbean/country/haiti/eq/ U.S. State Department Hotline and Information on Family Members in Haiti: Hotline: 1-888-407-4747 https://www.state.gov/p/wha/ci/ha/135102.htm U.S. State Department Travel Advisory on Haiti: https://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1134.html U.S. Embassy in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti: https://haiti.usembassy.gov/ |
