Nadler Seeks to Secure Critical Federal Funding and Oversight for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero

Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), representative of Ground Zero, introduced the National September 11 Memorial and Museum Act of 2011 in order to provide ongoing federal funds and oversight to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum – the official 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero – and designate the Memorial and Museum as part of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s national system.  Nadler hopes to generate critical funding on a permanent basis – up to $20 million per fiscal year – for the operations of the Memorial and Museum.  Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) has introduced identical legislation in the Senate.

“The National September 11 Memorial and Museum Act of 2011 will provide crucial funding for operations of our National September 11 Memorial and Museum and help ensure that this Memorial is available to all who wish to pay their respects and learn about the profound tragedy of 9/11,” said Nadler.  “As we solemnly observe the 10th anniversary of the attacks this weekend, we must ensure that the memories and stories of 9/11 will be protected and shared for posterity.  It is important that the Memorial be part of our national network of memorials and monuments.  I join Senator Inouye in safeguarding this precious repository of American history, struggle, and triumph.”
