Nadler, Leader Pelosi and Colleagues Plant Tree at U.S. Capitol to Commemorate 10th Anniversary of 9/11
Washington, DC,
September 13, 2011
Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), whose district includes Ground Zero, was joined by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), Eliot Engel (D-NY), Michael Grimm (R-NY), Steve Rothman (D-NJ) and Mike Kelly (R-PA) in planting a tree at the U.S. Capitol to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
“Thank you to Congressman Nadler and my colleagues for giving us this opportunity for renewal,” said Democratic Leader Pelosi. “This will be an inspiration to us to remember those we have lost and also an inspiration for the heroism and bravery and courage that we all saw that day. Time will hopefully lessen the pain for the families, but it will never diminish the respect that we have for those who were lost.” The memorial tree is a swamp white oak, over 400 of which were recently planted on the plaza of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. The tree is fast-growing and has a lifespan of up to 350 years. It was planted on the House-side of the U.S. Capitol Square, across from the Rayburn House Office Building with a dramatic view of the U.S. Capitol. ### |
