Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) applauded new regulations, announced by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, governing disclosure of electioneering activities by New York State nonprofit organizations. The new rules will require organizations to make transparent their donors, election-related expenditures, and political spending, and were created in order to protect donors to charitable organizations and stop “dark money” funding of political campaigns without accountability. Nadler issued the following statement: “Unlimited secret money threatens the integrity of our democracy and we need to put a stop to it. Attorney General Schneiderman has proposed very sensible reforms that have unfortunately been made necessary by the failure of Congress to pass the DISCLOSE Act. Congress needs to catch up to what New York State is doing and require full disclosure of electioneering activities by nonprofits.” ### |
