Rep. Nadler Appointed to Key Role on Democratic Steering Committee

This week, the New York State Congressional Delegation unanimously voted to elect Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) as its official representative on the House’s Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Rep. Nadler will serve as the officer for New York (Region 11 – the largest of the Committee’s 12 regions) and make official nominations for House Committee assignments and policy recommendations for the new Congress. His role on the Committee will be as advocate for New York State and its 26-Member Democratic Delegation.

“It is a great privilege to receive this vote of confidence from my peers and to serve on this important Committee,” Rep. Nadler said. “I will take seriously my responsibility to advocate on behalf of my fellow New York State Representatives – both freshman and senior – and to push passionately for the State’s policy needs.”

The Steering and Policy Committee is chaired by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and is charged with making committee assignments for Democratic members and policy recommendations to the party’s leadership. The 111th Congress will convene on January 6, 2009.
