Nadler Applauds Governor Paterson’s Directive on Gay Marriage Share on Facebook Share on X Print this Page Share by Email New York, NY, May 28, 2008 Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today issued the following statement regarding Governor David Paterson’s directive to all state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages completed in other jurisdictions: “Governor Paterson’s directive makes clear his commitment to provide equal treatment and protection for gay and lesbian couples that live in New York.  While we remain determined to achieving full marriage equality in New York, this directive is a welcome step in the right direction.  It is a strong affirmation of the simple fact that gays and lesbians deserve equal justice under the law.  I applaud Governor Paterson for doing the right thing.”
