U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler, authors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, issued the following statement on today’s extension of the deadline (from September 8th to November 8th) to sign up for the settlement of thousands of lawsuits filed by workers who participated in rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero:

“We’re glad that ailing 9/11 workers will have more time to decide if they want to agree to the proposed settlement.  We and our colleagues in the New York delegation are working to make sure that the Zadroga Act, which would make all the responders injured or made sick by Ground Zero toxins eligible for economic compensation, is passed by Congress when we reconvene in September.”
