Nadler Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Israel

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) condemned the terrorist attacks in Israel, in which terrorists from Gaza killed seven Israelis, including two children, in a series of five coordinated attacks near Eilat.  Congressman Nadler’s statement follows:

“I join with all civilized people in condemning today’s savage terrorist attacks on Israel.  In one of the attacks, terrorists fired an anti-tank rocket at a private car killing six people, four from the same family.  The attacks also employed roadside bombs, RPGs, mortars, and one incident in which terrorists in a car fired on a bus, wounding seven passengers before racing off and shooting at other vehicles.

“It is also disturbing that these terrorists from Gaza apparently infiltrated across the Egyptian border.  This could be a warning that recent events in Egypt, including the opening of Egypt’s border with Gaza, will open the way for further attacks.  Those around the world who have criticized Israel for its careful control of its border with Gaza should take note.

“Israel has long been plagued by terrorism targeting civilians.  In recent years, thousands of rockets have been fired from Gaza at southern Israel.  Towns like Sderot have been particularly hard-hit.  This attack, as barbaric as it was, must not be viewed in isolation.  It is part of a long-term threat to Israeli civilians by determined terrorists.  I hope that Israel’s critics will take note.  The United States must continue to stand with, and support, Israel, our only reliable, democratic ally in this very strategic region.”
