Nadler Announces $966,000 in Homeland Security Grants

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced $966,148 in Department of Homeland Security grants that will go toward protecting vulnerable non-profit organizations in his congressional district in New York City against terrorist attacks.  Nadler played a major role in providing high-risk non-profits federal funding for security measures through the High-Risk Non-Profit Security Enhancement Act, legislation he introduced which authorized grants for safety measures in schools, places of worship and other “soft targets” which do not currently have the proper means to protect themselves from an attack.  Nadler worked closely with the United Jewish Communities, the American Red Cross, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, United Way, the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, the American Hospital Association, the UJA Federation of New York, and many other groups toward passage of this vital legislation.

“This funding will make it possible for more charitable institutions, houses of worship, and the people they serve to get the proper equipment to secure themselves against potential terrorist attacks,” said Nadler.  “The threat against these organizations is still very real, and it is the obligation of government to protect potential targets from attacks by those who espouse hatred and violence.  I am proud to have helped these organizations and others to be able to better protect themselves.”
