Nadler Helps Bring Non-Profit Funds to Low-Income New Yorkers

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) announced $4 million in federal stimulus funding for two not-for-profit organizations based in his district in New York City. These Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) funds, administered by the United States Treasury Department, are designed to serve the needs of economically distressed communities across the city.

“I’m pleased to join Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in announcing $4 million in stimulus grants to non-profit organizations in my congressional district,” said Nadler. “These CDFI funds will be put to use expanding access to primary care in underserved parts of the city, and facilitating housing with integrated support services.”

The CDFI funds assist private, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations around the nation in their efforts to serve low-income populations. Receiving these funds, in the amount of $2 million each, are: the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and the Primary Care Development Corporation. The Corporation for Supportive Housing provides loans, grants, training and other services to assist tenants who have complex needs, while the Primary Care Development Corporation serves low-income populations which lack primary health care services.
