Nadler Helps Bring $34.2 Million in Stimulus Funds to New York’s Landmarks
New York, NY,
April 24, 2009
Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) announced $34.2 million in federal stimulus funding for three major National Parks Service projects in his district in New York City, including Governors Island, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. These federal dollars, secured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be immediately used to upgrade and improve these major monuments. Rep. Nadler has long-supported funding for these projects, and fought particularly hard for funding for Governors Island.
“This American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding will be very well spent on these important and iconic New York monuments,” said Rep. Nadler. “$5.6 million for Governor’s Island, which I have strongly supported, will be a tremendous help in abating and modernizing Castle Williams so that it can soon become a major destination for New Yorkers and visitors alike. In addition to improving our famous landmarks, these stimulus dollars will also create local jobs and sensible economic development.” The three projects in Congressman Nadler’s district are: $26.1 million for improvements and seawall stabilization in Ellis Island. $5.6 million for hazmat remediation of Governors Island and improvements to Castle Williams. $2.5 million for the installation of power and communications lines for security at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. |
