Rep. Nadler Announces That West Village and Port Authority Postal Stations Will Remain Open
New York, NY,
November 20, 2009
Congressman Jerrold Nadler is pleased to announce
that the West Village Post Office at 527 Hudson Street, and the Port
Authority Post Office at 76 Ninth Avenue will remain open, after
appearing on a list of 15 stations in New York City under review for
closure earlier this year. Nadler commended the United States Postal
Service for keeping the stations open, and for significantly reducing
the number of stations under review for closure and consolidation.
Nadler issued the following statement:
“I am pleased to announce that the West Village Station and the Port Authority Station will remain open, and I commend the USPS for reducing the number of post offices being reviewed for closure and consolidation in New York and nationwide,” he said. “Cuts to postal services and facilities affect real people, and unnecessary closures can pose tremendous inconveniences, particularly for seniors, those with disabilities, and businesses who rely on their services for productivity. I commend the USPS for recognizing these needs, and acting to make sure they are met. They must continue to ensure that the community members and businesses have essential services by keeping these much-needed facilities open.” Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer joined Congressman Nadler in this applauding the USPS for keeping these post offices open. He issued the following statement: “For many New Yorkers, especially our seniors, post offices are their connection to world at large," said Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. "Even during these tough economic times, we owe it to our communities to find a way to keep these offices open, and I applaud the USPS for taking this action today." |
