Rep. Nadler Expresses Thanks to Brooklyn Postmaster

This week, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) successfully intervened to prevent the Blythebourne Station of the United State Postal Service in Borough Park, Brooklyn from closing on Sundays. On November 20th, Rep. Nadler received a letter from Brooklyn Postmaster Joseph Chiossone announcing the planned Sunday closure of the Blythebourne Station. As Sabbath observance prevents the neighborhood’s Orthodox Jewish majority from performing postal errands on Saturdays, the decision effectively ended all weekend postal service to the local community. Concerned by this service gap, Rep. Nadler contacted the Postmaster to urge reversal of the decision.

“I want to express my thanks to Brooklyn Postmaster Joseph Chiossone for having the compassion to reconsider his decision to close the Blythebourne Station,” said Rep. Nadler. “After speaking with him, it is clear that his initial determination was simply an oversight and that the United States Postal Service continues to value its customers of all faiths. I am very glad that I was able to be helpful in this situation.”
