FY 2026 Community Project Funding Requests

1. Project Name: New York, New Jersey, Harbor and Tributaries Study (HATS) 

Request Amount: $500,000.00 

Intended Recipient:

Purpose of Request: This funding will support the New York–New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Study (HATS), a comprehensive U.S. Army Corps of Engineers initiative to manage coastal storm risk across the New York–New Jersey Harbor region. The study aims to reduce flood risks, enhance resiliency, and protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure from future storm impacts. It will inform long-term mitigation strategies and investment decisions to strengthen the region’s preparedness and safeguard lives and property against climate-driven coastal hazards.

2. Project Name: Swedish Cottage Revitalization 

Request Amount: $5,677,939

Purpose of Request: This project will restore and preserve the historic Swedish Cottage in Central Park. The revitalization includes improving the building's accessibility and modernizing its electrical wiring.

3. Project Name: Ralph Bunche Park Renovation 

Request Amount: $3,134,000 

Intended Recipient: New York City Department of Parks and Recreation

Purpose of Request: This public space improvement project will renovate Ralph Bunche Park to improve accessibility, safety, and usability. The renovation will create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for residents, workers, and visitors in Midtown East.

4. Project Name: Thomas Apartments 

Request Amount: $3,000,000 

Intended Recipient: New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development

Purpose of Request: This project will upgrade and preserve affordable housing at the Thomas Apartments. Planned improvements include modernization of critical building systems, enhanced living conditions, and preservation of long-term affordability for low-income residents.

5. Project Name: Harborview Terrace Elevator Replacement Project 

Request Amount: $3,000,000 

Intended Recipient: New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)

6. Project Name: Central Park Footpath Restoration Project

7. Project Name: Seabury Playground Infrastructure and Play Area Revitalization 

Request Amount: $2,700,000

8. Project Name: High Line 16th Street Accessibility Improvements 

Request Amount: $1,500,000

Purpose of Request: This project will construct a new ADA-accessible entrance at West 16th Street, ensuring equitable access to the High Line for all visitors and enhancing mobility at a major public park and cultural destination.

9. Project Name: Elevator Replacement for the Hoffman Conference Center

Purpose of Request: The project will modernize the elevators at the Hoffman Conference Center to ensure ADA compliance and improve public accessibility. This investment helps preserve the historic facility’s function as a vital community-serving space.

10. Project Name: Hudson River Park's Public Restroom Rehabilitation Project

13. Project Name: Foundational Data and Applications for Coastal/Flood Resilience

Request Amount: $2,190,000.00

Intended Recipient: The Research Foundation for the City University of New York

Purpose of Request: Hunter College seeks funding to acquire and develop foundational data sets critical to coastal and flood resilience planning across New York City. This includes LiDAR data at 20 points per square meter and high-resolution aerial photography from multiple angles. These datasets will be used to develop accurate flood risk models, assess potential impacts on critical infrastructure, and inform next-generation geospatial infrastructure as part of a NYC “Digital Twin.” The data will be especially important for planning around vulnerable populations and understanding risks associated with storm surge and climate change. The project will enhance the city’s preparedness and long-term climate resilience strategy.

 

14. Project Name: Launching a Certification Course for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Personnel to Build Partnerships to Address Violent Crime

Request Amount: $1,186,052.00

Intended Recipient: The Research Foundation for the City University of New York

Purpose of Request: This project creates a training and workforce development educational initiative in evidence-based public safety. The aim is to support law enforcement and criminal justice personnel in their professional development and improve violence prevention and public safety. This funding is for one year. All costs for the ongoing academic program will be covered through tax levy, NNSC contracts, and tuition. This program is focused on public safety, crime, and violence prevention issues that are the most important responsibilities of law enforcement agencies. The law enforcement students who participate will learn how to collaborate and work with each other and with community partners to address these critical public safety problems and reduce violence.

15. Project Name: Habitat Restoration, Research and Community Science Initiative

Request Amount: $3,037,000

Purpose of Request: The project is a large-scale habitat restoration, research, and community science initiative aimed at enhancing Hudson River Park’s 400-acre Estuarine Sanctuary. It will deploy submerged habitat features seeded with millions of oysters to support biodiversity and ecological resilience. Scientific monitoring will assess which enhancement techniques produce the greatest ecological uplift and inform future regional restoration projects. The project also includes robust community engagement through free educational programming and research partnerships with SUNY and CUNY institutions. It will improve coastal resilience and environmental equity in a disadvantaged area, as designated by New York State’s Climate Justice Working Group.
