“House Republicans are playing a very dangerous game by attempting to force the Department of Justice to reveal materials relating to an ongoing criminal investigation in order to protect President Trump.”
Today, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the Ranking Member of the Committee on the Judiciary, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the announcement that a new subpoena has been issued as part of the continuing Republican investigation into the actions of the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ):
“House Republicans are playing a very dangerous game by attempting to force the Department of Justice to reveal materials relating to an ongoing criminal investigation in order to protect President Trump. Republicans have shown time and time again that they are willing to cherry pick, mischaracterize, and leak sensitive law enforcement and counter intelligence information, putting our national security at risk. Rather than doing the job Congress is meant to do—providing an independent check on the Executive Branch and holding the Administration accountable—House Republicans continue to abet the President as the walls close in around him.”
The subpoena announced today demands files relating to the Carter Page FISA application, sources and methods in the FBI’s Russia investigation, and internal FBI memos written by former Deputy Director McCabe.
