Statement of Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) on Passing of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Mar 25, 2003

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), from New York's 8th Congressional District (Manhattan, Brooklyn), released the following statement on the passing of former colleague, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan:

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Senator Moynihan today. My thoughts are with his family in this trying time.

Senator Moynihan was an icon in New York, Congress, and America. He was the embodiment of a spirit of comity on Capitol Hill that has eroded in recent years -- a spirit we would be wise to bring back. The Senator never forgot where he came from, working tirelessly throughout his career and sometimes bucking his own party to do what he felt in his heart to be right. Whether representing New York in Congress or the United States in the United Nations, Senator Moynihan always displayed a tremendous intellectual capability that we all could be proud of.

I know he was loved and revered in New York, and offer my condolences on behalf of the New Yorkers I serve."
