With the start of the 118th Congress, I'm proud to now represent New York’s 12th District in Washington. This new district map spans both the east and west sides of Manhattan, reaching from Morningside Heights to Yorkville, and from Chelsea to Stuyvesant Town. As the Democratic Leader of the House Judiciary Committee now that Republicans have a majority in the House, I'll keep fighting for legislation that supports working families in New York and build on my legacy of progress as Chairman.
Last year, Democrats were able to sign into law my historic legislation to defend marriage equality, support pregnant and postpartum women in the workplace, and restore fairness for 9/11 families. This year, the Capitol was brought to a standstill when the new Republican majority was unable to elect a Speaker for an unprecedented 14 times in a row. This is no way to lead. However, you can rest assured that I will continue to stand for the same principles I have held throughout my career to help build a fairer, safer New York for all.
