Nadler Condemns Firebombing of Religious and Cultural Sites Across the City

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler condemned the firebombing attacks on Sunday evening that hit an Islamic cultural center, a private residence used as a Hindu house of worship, another private residence and a grocery store in Queens.  The NYPD has reported that these attacks appear to be linked and are treating the attacks as possible hate crimes.   As of Tuesday morning, NYPD has said that they are questioning one suspect for the group of firebombs.

“Sunday night’s attacks damaged the sanctity of two spiritual centers and threatened the lives and safety of their congregants, area residents and business owners.  Thankfully, no one was injured, but if these heinous attacks were indeed motivated by hate and religious bias, as many believe to be the case, it is a terrible reminder that we must fight intolerance and hate wherever we find it,” said Congressman Nadler. “Many have already denounced these crimes, and I call on adherents of all faiths to stand together to condemn the attacks.  The NYPD did an outstanding job in moving swiftly to protect the centers that were targeted, investigate the firebombings, and apprehend a suspect. I am hopeful that we will be able to bring the perpetrator to justice quickly.”
