Nadler: More Patriot Act Powers Found Unconstitutional

Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties today welcomed the decision of a federal district court in Oregon that found unconstitutional two search and surveillance provisions of the Patriot Act.

“This ruling is another victory for the Constitution and our system of checks and balances,” said Rep. Nadler, a chair of the Patriot Act Reform Caucus.  “We are all committed to fighting terrorism, but we must not abandon our Constitution in the process.  It’s clear that Congress must enact changes to these overbroad and unconstitutional powers.  I will work with my colleagues to make changes that give law enforcement the tools they need and protect our liberties and freedoms.  We must not undermine the Fourth Amendment.”
